Nigerian-born cloud engineer Abel Yakubu, founder of NexEdge Technologies and based in Germany, has earned global recognition after Guinness World Records officially confirmed him as the holder of the Longest Computer Programming Lesson.
Yakubu achieved the record in Abuja between November 21 and 23, 2025, where he led a 60-hour non-stop programming lesson aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical technology skills. The marathon session surpassed the previous world record of 48 hours and 15 minutes, setting a new global benchmark.
With the support of 30 committed participants and under the supervision of 20 independent witnesses, Yakubu maintained the lesson continuously from 11 a.m. on Friday to 11 p.m. on Sunday. The programme drew 60 students and more than 25 official witnesses, while viewers followed the sessions live across major social media platforms.
Speaking on the achievement, Yakubu said the record demonstrated what teamwork, shared vision, careful planning and unwavering commitment can accomplish. He expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the record attempt.
Drawing from over 10 years of experience in cloud engineering, Yakubu structured the lesson around major cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. He explained that he undertook the challenge to inspire young people to build strong, hands-on tech skills, especially as artificial intelligence adoption continues to grow worldwide.
Yakubu revealed that he spent two months preparing physically and mentally for the demanding task, describing the overnight sessions as the most challenging part of the exercise. Despite the strain, he said the experience reinforced his belief in discipline, preparation and purpose-driven learning.
Encouraging Nigerian youths to embrace technology, Yakubu disclosed that he has trained more than 200 young people in the past year. He also urged parents to support their children in acquiring digital skills, noting that technology education remains one of the strongest pathways to global opportunities.
The Guinness World Records confirmation highlights not only Yakubu’s personal achievement but also Nigeria’s rising presence in global technology education, showcasing how determination, collaboration and strategic planning can produce historic results.
